I'm married!  FINALLY!  It's so great not having to drop Grace off at her home in Katy anymore.  It's also nice living in the med center so I don't have to drive 40 minutes to Lighthouse on Tuesday mornings.  It's also great to finally have food in the home.  Grace is the best wife I've ever had!!!

what's it called when a guy and girl meet together exclusively at the same predetermined place on the same day and time and then participate in conversation while partaking in some sort of beverage and/or food and then continue to partake more and more often until it turns into engagement and a June 16, 2007 wedding date?

As you can see above, the date has been set.  If you are reading this post, you will NOT be receiving a "save the date."  (Whew.  That'll save me some postage.  And yes, you are being tracked.)

Oh, and Jimes is dating.

BIGGEST ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE YEAR!!!!!

Jimes is dating!  It's so unreal!  Jimes is the kind of guy who is good at EVERYTHING (e.g., basketball, programming Othello, yoga, etc.)  Now that he's dating, I wonder if it automatically means that he'll be extremely good at dating as well.  I can't see why not.

Anyhow, I think a congratulations is in order.  CONGRATS, Jimes!

p.s.  On a lesser note, I just got engaged this past Sunday.

It is another sad day in Alief, TX.  Upon giving up my $2.99 haircuts, I have learned to accept the grostesque reality of inflationary prices, and decided to get an $8 haircut today.  I do have to admit that I did enjoy not having to re-cut my hair again when I got home, but the thought of spending an embarassing amount of money for my hair (which will grow back in 2 weeks anyway) saddens the soul.

I cannot help but to think of what $8 could have bought:
- Com chien bo luc lac at Tan Tan
- 8 chicken sandwiches at Jack-in-the-Box (substitute mayo for a tomato, and you'll be healthy in no time!)
- 16 tacos at Jack-in-the-Box
- 2 bowls of small pho
- 8 sets of headlight bulbs on eBay
- 50 days of food and shelter in Ethiopia
- 8 bottles of LA Looks for Michael Jung

Anyhow, as an economist, I must accept that the $8 was a sunk cost and I must move on with my life.  I have justified the monetary exchange for services by thinking, "It's part of the wedding gift for my brother!" Also, in my financial accounting books, instead of booking the haircut as "misc expense," I have decided to capitalize it as an asset.  I have to yet to conjure up justification or support for that argument when the IRS embarks on an audit.

So, what does this mean for the future?  $8 haircuts forever?  Back to $2.99?  Compromise and do $3.99?  These questions may never get resolved in this lifetime, but in the meantime, I choose to live day by day to the fullest, using all my resources and skills to bring about the greatest good for the greatest number of people (utilitarianism).  Until next time, a bid adieu...

It is a sad day in Houston, TX.  I may have to give up my beautiful $2.99 haircuts.

After my last glorious xanga entry regarding my $2.99 haircuts (with 1 cent tip!), I recently traveled to STAR HAIR SALON once again and got the WORST haircut I've ever had in my life.

First of all, the haircut literally lasted 42.34 seconds.  This included my barber asking, "You want haircut???" as I entered the salon, me sitting down, getting the haircut, cleaning up the mess, and the usual payment of $3 (which will buy you three chicken sandwiches at Wendy's, so it ain't no small amount!)

Secondly, the haircut was extremely ugly.  I had to re-cut it myself with my small nose-hair clipper back at home in front of my mirror. GHETTO. Gross.

Thirdly, you know how that vinyl sheet is supposed to keep the hair clippings off of your clothes?  Well, after my $2.99 haircut, the barber miraculously got ALL the hair clippings on my beautiful Banana Republic pants.  Oh the anger!!!

Now, a few questions are raised in this instance: Is he a bad barber?  Is $2.99 just too cheap for a haircut?  Have my years of not tipping finally come back to haunt me in the form of really bad service?

Nonetheless, my last glimmer of hope is a $2.99 haircut place off of Gessner and Westpark.  I am hoping that the new location will suffice for a few more years until I can somehow manage my way out of Alief and into a crime-reduced environment.

If all else fails, I may be forced to do the unthinkable.  There's a $3.99 place off Long Point that looks OK that I've been wanting to save for my wedding...
